Record
A native macOS screen and camera recorder that preserves source layers for editing and turns an iPhone into a local-network remote monitor.
The problem worth solving
Many screen recorders permanently compose the screen and camera while recording. A poor crop, misplaced camera or interrupted session then becomes part of the file, and the person presenting cannot confidently monitor the result from away from the Mac.
What I built
Record captures screen, window, camera, microphone and system audio on a shared timeline while preserving authoritative media sources for later layout work. The editor can reposition and resize those sources before producing the finished recording.
The capture engine writes crash-safe rolling segments and can recover interrupted sessions. An iPhone companion pairs over the local network with a PIN and provides a remote preview without sending the live monitor feed through a cloud service.
What the product does
- Screen, camera and combined capture modes implemented as a native macOS application.
- Editable source geometry with synchronized playback, timeline controls and export.
- Crash-safe rolling media segments and recovery for interrupted recording sessions.
- PIN-paired iPhone preview and recording-status monitoring over the local network.
Why the design matters
Record separates capture truth from presentation choices. Preserving synchronized sources makes recording more forgiving, while the local iPhone monitor solves a practical confidence problem without making an internet connection part of the capture path.
My role
Ciprian created Record and leads its native product design and engineering across capture, editing, media synchronization, recovery and the iPhone companion.
